Open Mic

Anna Kerz holding the Talking Stick.

Since 1978 we have been gathering to tell stories every Friday. Stories of all kinds are welcome, but they must be told by heart.

No Reading Allowed.

There is a different host each Friday Night. If you would like to tell a story, just raise your hand and the host will pass the talking stick to you! Once you touch the Talking Stick you can put it down or keep it in your hand. New storytellers are always welcome! If you have a story longer than ten minutes just approach the host beforehand.

Admission is $5.00. We collect cash in a top hat or you can send an e-transfer to hat@1001Fridays.org

We tell from 8 until 10 p.m. EDT with a pause halfway through to chat with other storytellers and listeners. Doors open at 7:30.

Land Acknowledgment

As we share stories, we acknowledge that the First Peoples of Canada have been telling stories on this land and about this land for millennia. Toronto is in the Dish With One Spoon Territory. The Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant is a treaty between the Anishinaabe, Mississaugasand Haudenosaunee that bound them to share the territory and protect the land. Subsequent Indigenous Nations and Peoples, Europeans and all newcomers have been invited into this treaty in the spirit of peace, friendship and respect.
